Overview
Steganography is the field of information concealing. Steganography is related to, but different from, cryptography and rate-distortion theory. In cryptography, the goal is to scramble a message to completely obscure the original message. In steganography, a message is embedded in a channel or stream such that it is difficult to determine if a message exists at all.
A common application of steganography is in watermarking. We may wish to embed a message (or signature) into a media file so that the message can be extracted later on. However, we wish that the message does not distort the original file "too much."
