Uploading from scratch

  1. Click Upload file (it's almost at the bottom of the navigation bar of the left side of the page)
    • Source filename: Choose the file on your computer with the Browse button.
    • Destination filename: Enter the filename that will represent this file in our system. For example, if you enter "WNCG.jpg" here, then the file will be referenced as Image:WNCG.jpg and Media:WNCG.jpg (depending if the file is an image or general media type)
    • Summary: You may either describe the file (for example, a short bibliography entry) or you can just leave this blank. This will be displayed next to the file in the version history.
    • Click the "Upload" button
  2. You may enter more details about the file if you like by clicking Edit on the left side, just as you would edit any page on this site. Edit will not edit the file but rather the description about the file.

Warnings or errors you might get

Upload warning: If the file is large, you may get this warning. You may hit Save file to upload the file anyway, or Re-upload to choose a different one. In general, images should never be uploaded if they are too large; other media types vary in size and you shouldn't fret over this warning.

Corrupt file: If you get an error saying the file is corrupt or the extension does not match, contact Jared Grubb and tell him what has happened. We probably just need to add the file type to the list of allowed types for the site.
